I’m pretty lucky to work in the Compuware Building in downtown Detroit. One of the lovely views I get to soak in everyday, aside from Comerica Park and Ford Field, is Campus Martius Park. Known as the gathering place of Detroit, Campus Martius offers great events all year round. You should definitely put it on your downtown Detroit adventure list if you happen to be in the area.

During the summer, Campus Martius bustles with people. During the day, people who work around the park sit outside with other coworkers to eat lunch and soak in the sun. Heck, I’ve even worked out at one of the tables on a warm summer day. Sometimes, the park even hosts lunch time concerts featuring local musicians that play everything from rock to jazz. During Navy Week, a few of the service men that created a blues band rocked the stage! Some of the nearby offices also put out yard games, like corn hole, for people to play during their breaks. At night, Campus Martius hosts family friendly events and movies.

Many of my coworkers also hit up Fountain Bistro for lunch. I have yet to eat there, but from what they say the food is great – although it’s a bit on the pricy side.

A few weeks ago, the Winter Magic festivities kicked off at Campus Martius with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. During this time, the park offers outdoor skating and s’more stations are available to visitors. A few days ago, we decided to go skating after work, and we had a great time! It beats any local rink by miles because it was less busy and didn’t smell like a sweaty hockey team!

From skating to s’mores to music, head on down to Campus Martius for an afternoon of family fun! Follow them on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to hear about new events!
